Ohlins HD852 vs 908

Hi,
I have the HD852 and they are very good shock absorbers but for me, who is not going to enter a circuit, I think that height is not worth it. I am 5.10” tall and although I reach the ground with both feet, I feel like I am constantly holding back my body weight so that it doesn't slide down the seat. I'm thinking about it but I think that driving around the city for a long time is not worth it. Some Ohlins 908s have to work much better than the stock ones and be more comfortable. I would be willing to do an exchange with someone who has new ones since mine are brand new

i might have something for you, I'll have to get to my stash of XR goodies, and pull them out, give me a few hours, maybe someone closer to you might chime in.

by the way, your HD852's are they the SPL numbered ones with the rebound and compression settings, and what are the numbers that you can read on the springs, thanks.
were they set up for your weight?, I am 190 pounds

I'm also 5'10".

With the raised rear, I just pulled the cover off the saddle, cut the foam flatter and removed some to let me slide back on the bike - and glued and stapled the cover back on. Looks oretty stock, except for a better fit. And it keeps the handling improvement of the longer shocks.

In a while I will be able to look at the spring code. I weigh 83 kg. They are supposed to be as they should be, with two clicks for less bounce.
Phaedrus:
It is an option but I don't know how the lowered seat would look aesthetically and above all, I would lose a lot of comfort for long journeys. It is not a decision that has been made 100%. I think I'm going to try to look for some in my city with the stock shock absorbers to see if aesthetically it wins or loses with those two inches. Lower it will have a more Fiat Track style, right?

I gained comfort. I put a few layers of thin high density seat foam on the stock foam, and built up the nose a bit. I ended up with a saddle with better riding position, and comfort on 500 mile days.

Oh…I see you are looking for 908’s, the ones I have are 907’s they are supposed to be the stock length which is 14” inches, I don’t know what 908’s are, but I don’t have those…sorry. I’m not sure, but the difference might just be the color of the springs.
907’s have black springs
908’s have yellow springs

Thanks,
The only difference is the color of the springs. The truth is that I like yellows. In the photos I see that they are not in bad condition. But really how they are with marks, scratches, etc. There seems to be some marking on the bottles, but I'm not sure.

I’ll take better pictures tomorrow, there aren’t any marks on the gold reservoir’s that’s some styrofoam from the inner box. sorry, I can’t do anything about the yellow springs, if that’s a dealbreaker for you, no problems, just let me know.

You short people, I'm a full 5'10.5" and 93 Kg.....that extra height

Hmmmmm comfort on long rides.....on an XR......I didn't think that was something to consider

I have considered, and probably do since I can just swap back, is swap my 1200Iron rears with XR rears.....the idea being increase lean angle on Iron since I'm always scraping.......reduce lean angle on XR since I've never come close to scraping

I don't think 10.5 inch shocks will make it look bad

I'm just a DIYr I don't tear into motors(yet) , my concern would be how it effects belt tension

On XL the axle will be 3-4 ínches down from its original orientation to the frónt pulley, XR would be up

XL when hit a bump the wheel raises and the belt will tighten, XR might go above allowable travel
