Nope. I do independent video stuff as a hobby along with messing about with motorcycles... Thought it would be a challenge to do a really good "how to" video. In this case, fork seal replacement....

Yeah, BPF's are totally different, but I think the regular Showa fork tools will work on those. It's the 09-10's, and V-Rods with USD forks that have that freeking nut in there that is a total PITA to get out! I wanted to find an easy off-the-shelf solution for people so they didn't have to cut and weld something together to get the nut out, and HD won't sell the special tool to the public. Oh, and ONLY HD uses this particular fork nut!

Oops! One quick correction! The spanner nut socket mentioned is a Motion Pro part number 08-0571! I'll correct and repost the clip, and of course it will be correct in the final vid!

Thats not a kit its the number for the individual seal.The rest of the bushes etc are OK Mike

 

Shackman, yeah, you got it. Even the dealers mechanic here (who is pretty cool) calls it "Harley's big dick syndrome" whereby they want to drive traffic to their dealers.

 

Oh. and I'm STILL waiting on backorded parts!

 

Here in the US it seems like the part numbers for the individual pieces, including the seals, have all been superseded by one new number for a kit that supposedly has all the bits. So I have two choices... try and order stuff that is NLA (no longer available) OR try and order the new kit that has been on back order for 2 freeking months! Oh, and no dealer seemingly anywhere stocks seals - presumably because they are not chrome. I swear, it's easier to order parts for a godam Maserati then this thing sometimes... FWIW they are supposed to ship TODAY...

 

Mike I could have got 43mm seals cheaper off ebay.Scotty came up with the site for me but as HD had them I paid twice the price and went for them.They are listed as the same as certain Buells hence the weird part number. As I am crap I cant get any more specific but the Big Fella will I am sure .

As far as seals (bearings too), I usually head down to a local bearing house who can match up any seal or bearing you take to 'em ..... Usually at half the price and twice the quality of OEM stuff ..... There are very few parts on the XR that are "XR Only" .....

 

Silly me to think a dealer would/could actually get parts for it... At any rate, yes, you are both correct in that the seals can be second sourced. I am curious about what comes in the HD "kit", besides, they shipped today so I should have them next week and been too busy to have done anything recently should they have materialized sooner!
