What Have You Done To Your XR Today?

1848767 Views 13389 Replies 487 Participants Last post by  Skiddy
I thought this would be a good spot for people to post any of those little mods they did on their XR from day to day.

Maybe you added some bags (bagger!) or some LED indicators.

Maybe you washed the bike.

MayB you put some new tires on there.

Who know?

Just post up!

Oh, and we like pictures.

Not XR Related, but because my wife is half Norwegian, I fly the flag for her this time every year. The XR is in the garage, plugged into the battery tender.

Installed a BellyPan from Suburban Harley the other day. VERY easy to install and if you are keeping your side stand I suggest you have one of Ytmans cutout templates on hand to do it correctly and easily.

Watch for the front holes not in the correct place. Again thanks to Ytmans template to correct this. These holes MUST be 2-3/8" apart.

Template cutout pattern. NOTE: you may have to change your scaling when you go to print the template. I had to go to 103% to get the correct spacing on the front pin holes. Something must get off with different printers. Just print one out and measure the hole centers and adjust from there - very easy.

Paint, finish install. I used a Carbon Fiber (looking) sticker to protect the front of the pan. I'm sure the paint would not hold up to the sandblasting effect from the front tire.

Did your purchase include the hardware? I used the pdf from @ytman for the jiffy stand cut out.
Very tidy install Chipmaker! I remember, 6 or 7 years ago, when I was cutting the hole in my brand new, high dollar, surprisingly fragile, V&H belly pan searching over and over for a little help. Some kind of guidance. ANYTHING! I was anxious and it was a total pain in the you know what. I kept thinking”MORE?…..CUT MORE?….” Each time having to lower the jiffy and carefully slide the pan over and off, trim trim, carefully back on, kickstand back up...etc…etc…
It’s easy to see why the pans that were offered pre cut for the stand were cut straight up and off the part at both ends of the jiffy. Even though it gets a little thin between the gusset of the stand and the adjuster for the primary chain it’s still a cleaner look.
I’m not very good with the computer but Mrs. Ytman is and she was doing a lot of drawing with it at the time. I asked if she could make a printable version of what I’d done. “But you’re already done.?” she said. “you’ll see” I said “ some day someone is going to be right where I just was and they’re going to say…” if only there was some kind of template””. Now, it’s helped 2 members in the same year. Feel free to share the file with anyone that wants it….until somebody blames Ytman for effing up their new pan. hahaha. Be sure to tell them it’s like a stop sign in New Orleans. It’s just a suggestion.

I forgot to mention…good job on the vinyl. Put a little on the bottom too.

You have helped a lot with me getting my XR to where it is with the handlebars, and now with the belly pan. So many conversations about so many things. The time you have saved me with that template, there would be no way that you would be to blame if I would have messed mine up. If someone every asks for that template, I'll send it, and let them know where I got it. The vinyl on the front is a great idea too. I just haven't put the drain hole in the bottom yet.

@Chipmaker
Once you see it, the belly pan really finishes off the look. It is like it needs to be there. Plenty of clearance for speed bumps or "Sleeping Policeman" as our friends on the other side of the pond call them. The addition of the safety wiring is a nice touch to the front.

Thanks everyone.
Yes, Cory I purchased the hardware kit another $60. Very well worth it. I had to clean up the front pins but it was better than making them myself plus the rear bracket. I didn't have to do anything to the rear bracket and its made of Stainless Steel. Bolted right up and no adjusting.

Ytman, good idea covering the bottom also, didn't think about it blasting the bottom. AND the drain hole, I was thinking, that thing is going to fill up with water if riding in the rain.
I'm sure creating the cutout was a nightmare without the template. I started on the small side and kept working towards my marks from the pattern/template trying to leave as much material as possible.
Thanks everyone.

It won’t hold too much water because of the side cut out but after a washing I pop the plug and sand and junk flood out. I live on a dirt road though.
What did you have to “clean up” on the pins? Eventually the glass cuts through the grommets and will ride on the pins if you don’t catch it. Mine got worn at some point.
The pans do make noise. Sometimes when the moon is right mine barks like a dog at 2500rpms. “Woof Woof” haha

I got a little rattle from where the jiffy stand meets the pan, only when I kick back the stand, but added a little rubber hose section to the stand where they meet, and all is good. Clearance when in the up position is good too. I am thinking that the front rubber inserts would wear more if the pan keeps getting removed, but I'll keep an eye on mine.
Ytman, I had to clean up the pins because someone didn't take the time to deburr the drilled holes for the clips and deburr the part completely. They were pretty rough and the holes were drilled off center but still work. Maybe they were in a hurry to get them done ?? I'll probably end up making a replacement set in the future.

So far, my does not make any noise.

Corey, my jiffy stand was hitting too and I kept grinding away on the stand trying to keep it from hitting and busting the fiberglass. I finally got it to where it would barely hit and then I also added some rubber hose to my stand and all is good.
