So, number 1, please no one on here buy a TomTom of any kind. You will get screwed. The entire company has amnesia with what the sell and where.

I bought my Rider 2nd edition in April of 2010. I had it on my BMW and used it in my truck. It worked great, until it didn't. I noticed it wasn't charging off the bike dock anymore. I fumbled around with it, sold the BMW, bought the XR in June of 2011. Tried to get it wired to the XR, asked y'all some questions, but never got it working.

Called TomTom, first they told me they didn't sell units made for motorcycles. Um really? Here, let me send you your website for reference. Then they tell me its the docking station's fault, that I need a new one. Granted, the dock has a BIG ASS TOMTOM logo on it, they tell me to call Ram Mounts. So I call them and they don't make the powered one, TomTom does. I call TomTom back, well, they can't talk to me at all about my unit, it isn't under warranty anymore. Click. Really, the bitch hung up on me. Really. THAT is the epitome of customer service.

I finally order a new mount, have it shipped from England. Get it here, ya, the TomTom still won't charge. And everytime I dock it on the new dock, the damn thing freezes. So, I have a brand new dock with power cable that I just paid $105 that does me no good. I have the old dock that I just busted the springs on, that ALSO does me no good. I have a piece of shit GPS that apparently, if you ask the manufacturer, they will first tell you they never made it, and then they will accept no responsibility for the piece of shit, then tell you to go **** yourself and hang up on you.

UGH. Even if the boycot is small, remember, friends don't let friends buy from this piece of shit company.

Wow, happy freaking Friday.

You'd think a girl would know better than taking directions from a guy, especially one with two first names. Of course, it's normally Billy Bob or Billy Ray not Tom Tom even though Bubba comes close if you break it in two- Bub Ba. But I suppose in Alaska where you only have two roads, even a guy can be right 50% of the time.:nana:

You have my support. TomTom = DumbDumb. Mine worked 3 or 4 times then decided it could not find a signal. 2hrs of f*cking about with updates and got it working again . Since then it selectivley tells me that an address, that is on it's own f*cking map, does not exist. Don't buy TomTom.

Thanks for the disclaimer, Melissa. I made sure to put my blinders on when I read your post.

Put the TomTom on eBay as a package deal, but don't write about how crappy it is. Make someone very happy.

Personally, I've never used one of those electronic gizmos because I always know where I'm going. Home => Work. Work => Home.

I own two Garmin's thanks to TOM TOM and Magellan's lousy reviews all over the interweb and borrowed a friend's TOM TOM about 8 years ago and it got us lost in San Francisco turning us the wrong way down a one way street.
Love the Garmins!

FireFly - Thats the best Rant I've seen since mine on the Thundermax on HD Forums. You oughta get a few bonus points for that. I've used Garman for a decade or more. Good stuff.

FDDriver, The garman hand held I have is waterproof like most of them - EXCEPT in the battery compartment. I've canoed many of the Heritage rivers in Canada and on one trip, the Hayes River i think, had the garman rained on hard:oops:, Filled the battery compartment and killed the rascal. When it dried out a fresh set of AA's gave it life again. Don't swim with a GPS, bag it.

Sorry about the [email protected] product and service FireFly. I'm getting ready to buy a high-end GPS for my Road Glide Ultra. If you happen to speak to Tom Tom again, tell them I won't be researching any of their products.

Dog, if you are looking for a new GPS don't overlook the Alabama Springer Edition...

It's lightweight, can be mounted vitually anywhere, requires no batteries, and is simple to operate ....

Of course the fact Springer got lost on the very trip outlined in this picture should concern you......but I think that was just a glitch in his software :)
