Ok, for years there have been wars and rumors of wars over a North America XR meeting. East meets West. North meets South. Good meets Evil. Yin meets Yang. You get the picture.

Well, nothing happens until something happens, dig? So this is where it starts ... I expect it to evolve quite a bit before we nail down real specifics (routes, motels, activities, marijuana vendors, casinos, you know...the basics. :) )

Consensus seems to be Colorado (I'm sure legal pot had nothing to do with that decision )(). There was some talk of South Dakota but I think the mountain roads drew it back to Colorado. Where at in Colorado is yet to be determined. Hopefully someone has some experience driven insight to choosing a place.

There's a very cool website we may find helpful : http://www.motorcyclecolorado.com/index.html

Again this fire may or may not catch ..... But this thread is how we'll find out :yinyang:

Must involve Pikes Peak is all I know!

This will probably involve more than one basecamp/hotel.

The real question is do we as a groupe want to think about Maybe putting on some kind of enduro type tires for this ride. Whole lot of less than paved roads would be inaccessible to the planning.

Kansas has nice straight roads
There are a few good roads in Kansas. We try not to publicize them... Plenty of curves everwhere: mostly ninety-degrees at intersections...

I've done a fair amount of riding in Colorado. Trail Ridge Road (Rocky Mtn. National Park) beats the heck out of Pike's Peak. (Yeah, I've ridden up Pikes Peak a couple of times; just to have done it.) The Motorcycle Sport Touring Assn has held several of our national rallies in Avon (just west of Vail,) based out of the Christie Lodge. Motorcycle friendly, excellent accommodations (covered parking, good food and a liquor store within walking distance, etc.) Not sure what kind of pricing we'd get for a small group. You can head west, east, north, or south out of Avon and find great roads. Desmo Steve and I spent a week there year before last; rode a different set of mountain passes each day before returning for a cigar and a view of the mountains from our patio. You can sleep multiple people in most of the rooms.

My XR isn't the best touring mount. How much crap would I get if I arrived with it in the bed of my pickup? (It is a Harley, after all.)

Not a single peep.

Probably be some people doubling up to save some cash on the gas I bet.

Map some of those roads out for us! I love looking on google earth for stuff like that.

Wasn't this the rage a few years ago.. the west coast boys didn't want to ride to the east side of the mountains, and the east coast boys didn't want to ride on the west side of the mountains? Then you all agreed to meet in Sante Fe and smoke some peyote?

I would definitely be trailering up.

Desmo Steve and I have been working on riding as many paved Colorado passes as we can. (There's a map with pushpins hanging in the Mouse and Toad Garage...) I'm not sure we've marked everything we've ridden, and there are a lot of good roads that don't go across the continental divide.

The only reason I was suggesting Pikes Peak is, just like you yourself said, for those that have never ridden the road they might like to do it too. I been up it 4 or 5 times I guess including when the top was still gravel. Doesnt matter to me, I would just like to meet some of the left coast guys to pick on them a little. :innocent:

Bear has made the point the tenative dates are too close to the Sturgis (Aug 8-14)....... So if anyone has suggestions this would be the time ..... Keep in mind the window for riding up there is pretty small...... Late May until early September is prolly safe

Well, I see Lakota is in, so this is already an INTERnational XR meet;) Just sayin'. I can't commit at this point, but this sounds great and I will be there if I can swing it. Great idea!

lakota is liable to ride anywhere!!!!! He's the original wild man.

Could mean less other bikes on the roads there. And we have few that I have seen or heard that hit Sturgis. 1700 miles for me, probably trucking it also.

Sounds like fun! Lets all agree on dates sooner than later. Don't know about you guys, but I like to book hotels way in advance.
