Greetings All. Well I finally got my rear PR2 on today after some initial struggling. I used a 15" steel car wheel with opaque tubing. After whining-n-dining it (concerned with damaging my wheel) I wasn't getting too far then I treated her like the wh**e she really is and everything fell in line very quickly.

Anyway, I DID remove my rear sprocket due to the close tolerances in the steel wheel but the book says to use "NEW" bolts when you mount the sprocket.

Is using new bolts on the sprocket really necessary (nesse-scary)? or can I clean the threads and use thread-lock?

What about the disk if I should need to remove later. Is it necessary to use "new" bolts on the disks as well?

As ST eluded to; H-D wants you to use new bolts so they can be sure you have the proper thread locking compound on them.

Cleaning and loctite should work just fine.

A word of caution on the torque specs from HD for the sprocket bolts from Phaedrus' site.

HD specifies a ridiculous high tightening torque for these bolts on the XR. Why is a mystery. My dealer busted a rear wheel from an XR following HDs guidelines. I've set mine on 60 ft-lbs instead 80. Read more about it here:

That is probably why they say to use new bolts, they have stretched the shite out of them.

I thought they wanted to us to use new factory bolts so the change out would cost HundredDollar. After looking at the Heli-repair why wouldn't the technician use larger bolts in all holes and not perform the heli-repair?

I didn't strip mine but wondered about the torque sequence. The bolts are 60#/ back out 180 degrees and set at 80#. I would think the process of the pass of the second torque should be done individually with the other bolts at 60#'s rather than loosen them all 180* and reset to 80. Thanks for the torque input. When I was using the torque wrench I did not feel any thread slippage and this information will be helpful later if I or others have a failure.

I'm surprised this thread failure information isn't posted on our site under known failures.

How does the PR2 Rear match up with the Dunlop OEM Front? I'm thinin maybe I might just balance the rear to get me going BUT I am concerned about the mixed manufacturers and sticking power differences.

Although, I do zip around the corners like that Little Rascal's kid riding the tricycle at Mr. Hoods house, lol. Not sure if stickiness is needed, just kidding.
