Ahhh, the great Jarhead oil spill........yea, I remember that. :) To damn well...................
And you had to go and miss it all, I had to come home and cancel that insurance policy I took out on you. Don't know if they would have paid out though, took it out under the name of Harvey "Stand Up Sit Down GPS in Painter's Tape on the Tank" Springer. Had some guy named Tom underwrite it, asked me if that was some Indian name and I said no, just some' Bama boy, he said that would have been his second guess.

This is interesting, I looked at the link but I'm wondering now how 18 connects to 12? This little hose is one of the things that has had me concerned from my first oil change.
#18 does not connect to #12. #12 is a plastic sleeve and #18 just slides through the #12 sleeve which guides and protects the hose through the rear of the engine and then pops out of the bottom of the #12 sleeve below the engine and the drain plug just plugs/clamps right into the end of the #18 hose.

I figured you had an evil plan somewhere in the mix. :)

Don, any other ideas on what to do? The original hose is just thin rubber. Heater hose is pretty thick and I figured it 'might' hold up better. And the original hose looks to be of very similar material as those vent hoses off the rocker boxes.
I would use oil cooler hose if'n it were me

I ve also herd part #10 can come unscrewed from motor side with oil filter atached and cause oil slick. How many times this happen?

Two that I know of. Had mine checked when I was out of town getting the oil changed. Service tech told me 'Good call, it was loose" talked to him later and he said he found another one loose on someone else's XR that worked at that same dealer.

So what do the road racing lads use to safety that dodgy drain plug? What about the drain tube itself? Is there a steel braided AN hose replacement? I would think that racers would be quite concerned about sudden loss of traction WFO while dragging a knee. Any racers or racing fabricators care to chime in here?

Nobody's yet said what a bleedin' half arsed idea it is anyway. What's wrong with a tapping and a proper drain plug in the side of a reshaped oil tank????

I love my bike but some of Harley's 'engineering' just stinks.
lolololol .... I have to laugh :) ..... I mentioned this 7 years ago and caught a lot of flak for questioning a tried and true system.

Since then I've learned to appreciate it .... Simple, easy, reliable .... And I've never stripped out or lost a drain plug (which I have done on metric bikes :) )
