Numbers On My Rear +2" Ohlins

First off, these shocks are not for sale!

Purchased my XR a little over 2 years ago and have been upgrading it ever since. I have resold some of the items that came on my bike from the second owner, and changed my mind on a few things to something else, but all in all I am pleased with what I have done…so far.

One of the first items I purchased was a set of Ohlins +2" Shocks to replace the stock length YSS Piggy-Backs that came on the bike(these have been sold already). The racebikes used +2", and I knew a little about Ohlins at the time, and that was the direction and look I wanted, so when these became available for sale on this forum, I scooped them up. Very detailed information was given in the sale, and the box came with it (That is value in itself!), so I thought some of you might like to read about it.

SOLD!!! FS: Discontinued Öhlins Race Piggyback's - WHO WANTS EM! | XR1200 Owners Group

My only regret was not having the $$ at the time to purchase the race forks Jeremy was selling with the Ohlins Cartridges, a little after that. Anyhow, he listed the information about the shocks in detail, but once in my posession, I wanted to know what the numbers on the springs meant. While my forks are out getting upgraded, it was time to toss this question to Barrry at KFG Motorsports, and ask them to decipher the numbers on the springs. Sent him the link to the sale, and he further asked me for a picture of an etched/stamped number on the top of the shocks that starts with HD. Here is the info.

Spring Numbers(from the pictures in the sale)

Ok Corey, to decrypt the spring it is a 06380-04 ohlins spring that is was the stock spring for your shock set HD852 SERIES. It is a progressive spring with a compression rate 24-30 N/mm. It was chosen to match the original machine / rider estimated weight requirements put forth by the factory. There is an upgraded spring set 06380-07 is the part number, they are currently out of stock at Ohlins and they are rated for 30-39 n/mm there is also another 2 set that splits the difference between the two 24-33 n/mm and 27-36 n/mm. Alot of it is dependent on how they feel to you. The 24-33 set is the only one in stock and would only offer slightly stiffer feel to what you already have.

I was originally going to ask based on my weight, what initial settings I should use, but when I installed these, they were very stiff, so a local suspension shop that I have known since before my racing days, Catylist Reaction Suspension Tuning, made some much improved adjustments to them. I do not have the current setting numbers written down. These shocks are still a little on the stiff side, but will revisit the settings after my forks return from Muscle Beach.

Mine have the same base numbers as yours on my springs, 06380-04/21/30 but after those numbers additionally have L3811 written on the spring.

FYI, some spring rate info that might interest you.

My RaceTech shocks are non-progressive with a rate of 2.2 Kg/mm. When I convert that number to N/mm using this tool:

I get a value of 21.6 N/mm. Therefore, quite a bit softer than your Ohlins, and my spring rate was chosen based on my relatively large "tonnage". I provided Race Tech my weight and riding style, (I was listed as "Expert, Street"), I told them I was NOT a racer.

I’ll bet maybe a dollar that TCHD is Twin Cities Harley Davidson and 13 26 16 is a high school locker combo :ROFLMAO:
Dwight, did you bump your head again? You mixing pain meds with Old No. 7? 🤪

Maybe I should get a Little Orphan-Annie secret decoder ring? Naw, it will just translate to “Drink your Ovaltine.”
🥴 I was only partly kidding. I bet TCHD is Twin Cities

My bike came with the 852 shocks and the 03 springs. Way to soft for my 220 lbs, bottomed out all the time. Even with the compression at 4 which is max.
After talking with Ohlins USA ( the only place to get springs) they suggested the 05-24/33 springs and it made all the difference.
Comp at 2 and rebound about mid there are 20 clicks of rebound don't recall what i have.
Cory I have the exact same rear shocks on my XR and when I had it at shop with the Ohlins guy he was baffled as to what shock they were. He hadn't seen them on any other bike. Glad to see you deciphered it all out.
