I recall seeing the mounting tabs broken on some Free Spirits units so that's something to look out for. I definitely would not attach it to the tank. The difference between the movement of the motor and that of the tank would destroy it. The rubber between the throttle body and the airbox on the XR is like a big speaker cone with lots of flex. I'd make a bracket to carry the filter off the motor also. That's just me tho.

Thank you! That means a lot coming from someone with experience hand drafting. The design looks a little strange on the front and back views because it was generated off of a 3D model I made in the CAD software I use. I could stand to work a little on my drafting skills to touch up the generated drawings I get from that program.

Noted! I remember seeing that special gasket on the throttle body when I was taking the airbox off to take measurements, but I hadn't considered any effect there might be if I had decided to mount it to the tank. I'll steer clear of that!

Are you suggesting a second tab coming from around the collar of the filter, or near that area? Do you think the large breather bolt on the front end of the induction module cover would be a good place to mount that, or did you have another idea? I'm open to all suggestions, aesthetic or functional!
Sorry for the delay. there seems to be a lot hanging out front off of that small tab. Perhaps that is the reason for the tabs breaking. Yes. That large Allen bolt holding the throttle body cover/cylinder brace seems like a good mount for a bracket to the hose clamp of the filter. 2 cents.
