Okay before anyone knocks it, I made absolutely no modifications whatsoever to my existing factory Rear Sets and can go back to them at any time and you would practically never know I had mids on here except for the factory frame mounts I had installed while my RSD pipe was being fabbed to fit my bike. I removed my rear sets and sent them to powdercoat so I figured now would be the best time to try this while my bike is down anyway. Also, I plan on riding from Orange County, Ca to Denver, Co in June so I thought I would compare the comfort/ride. Automotive tire Automotive lighting Motor vehicle Automotive exhaust Hood
Tire Wheel Land vehicle Fuel tank Automotive fuel system

I turned 50 and had back surgery in the same month, recovered very well and said ****it and bought my orange XR . No regrets at all. Thanks for the input

...That's the attitude!

Hello HH I really like the blacked out primary cover on your ride. Is that a replacement cover or did you paint or powder coat the stock cover? And the polished swing arm looks beautiful. Give me polished aluminum over chrome any day.
Well I just had to do it so I expect a fair View attachment 227001 View attachment 227009 View attachment 227017 View attachment 227025 View attachment 227033 amount of grief (LOL)--I wanted taller bars without the "Apes" look so I had to design my own set; 10" rise x 3" pullback x 31.5" wide
Cactus, you are blowing my mind!
I love your bike!
I'm LOVING my 1200X, but trying to find the line between getting used to a new style of machine and what I need to change to fit me better.
I'm coming from a club style dyna and fxr, so your style is intriguing to me.
Great work!
Hell, wanna make me some bars?
Hello baddcactus, as I explained is my intro, titled, "Another old fart jumps on the XR bandwagon!," I have a physical limitation that makes it difficult to upshift with the XR's rearsets. If I cannot solve this I will be forced to sell the bike. When you had the mid-control brackets welded to your frame, did you need to have the engine removed? Because I assumed this is necessary, I have been considering whether I can design a bolt on bracket. If I could, I must consider whether there would be enough room, could it be tightened enough to hold and if so, would it crush or damage the frame? I'm going to search for the mid-control pieces you mentioned are needed but I don't want to commit to buying them until I can figure out how to get the brackets in place. Do you know how much the conversion cost you overall? Also, did You make the brackets? Thank you.

A lot of the parts from this bike are for sale on eBay now. Mid controls, pipe, goofy handlebars.

I hope so too. The bars don’t look bent or scraped up so maybe it just got put back to XR.
they are for sale on ebay for $450.00

That ad is incorrect.
Those were never made for XRs.

This little project took me most of the day yesterday and half day today but a lot of that was just tring to figure out the right side--of course the left side was a piece of cake. Granted, this won't work for everyone due to exhaust, etc and many wouldn't want the mids in the first place but now I think I have the best of both worlds since I can go back to my rear sets at any time. Cheers!
i was looking at getting forward controls for my 2009 since I never tried back controls and thought I wouldn't like them. after a few miles on my XR I think I'll keep it stock and go with it for a while.
Know what I think is funny ? I sold my mid mount bike to buy a rear set bike for more comfort and better control and I'm almost 70 years old. This is why I bought an XR, suits me better.
