Okay before anyone knocks it, I made absolutely no modifications whatsoever to my existing factory Rear Sets and can go back to them at any time and you would practically never know I had mids on here except for the factory frame mounts I had installed while my RSD pipe was being fabbed to fit my bike. I removed my rear sets and sent them to powdercoat so I figured now would be the best time to try this while my bike is down anyway. Also, I plan on riding from Orange County, Ca to Denver, Co in June so I thought I would compare the comfort/ride. Automotive tire Automotive lighting Motor vehicle Automotive exhaust Hood

Ingenious and unique.

I hate to think of what yall PM each other about me. ;)

You know we don't PM. We just say it straight to your face.

Nothing we wouldn't say to you face-to-face.
I'm not big on mid controls personally, but these look tastefully done.

Thank you! I've been getting some good response through the PM's as well asking questions about fitting these to their bikes. Any and all questions are welcome and I just hope I can help-- thanks guys.

here's a few additional details I will add for the guys that have sent PM's regarding parts needed for mid-controls conversion since for some reason it won't let me send pics. Here's a partial set of 2014-up Sportster XL mid controls(you only need these from this set Hand tool Tool Bicycle part Composite material Auto part

you will notice the brake pedal on the left is from 2004-2013 sportsters and the black pedal on the right is the 2014-up you need the 2014-up unless you want to modify the 04-13--just make it easier if you buy 2014-up. Musical instrument Hand tool Vision care Wind instrument Automotive lighting

sorry I just looked at my pics above-- you can either modify a 2004-2013 mid controls shaft like I stated or I actually used a 2014-2017 sportster forward controls shaft part# 51730-10 (either one will work)
For the brake linkage between the brake pedal and pivot I used a 2004-2017 sportster forward controls shift linkage because it has 2 adjustable heims and you can dial your pedal level with this. H-D part# 34573-04 View attachment 205761 View attachment 205769
For the heavily modified brake pivot I used a 1999-2003 sportster forward controls shifter lever part# 42582-99 and cut/modified the hell out of it but the shaft hole is the same diameter as the XR. View attachment 205777 View attachment 205785
I am so glad you are sharing this with the forum ,Thank you much BC .

I've gotta get started scrounging for parts here and there so I can get this done .

Or if anyone has some of these parts laying around that want to get rid of them , I am interested .

I like it. good job. I would like to have known what possessed you to do it.. just sitting around and thought.. gee, I think i will change to mids on my bike. But very cool.
Hey man, we don't judge here. Whatever fits you and makes you comfortable and happy riding the bike then have at it. Looks good. Only if you put apes on it then you could expect a fair to middling amount of grief from a bunch of guys here.

amount of grief (LOL)--I wanted taller bars without the "Apes" look so I had to design my own set; 10" rise x 3" pullback x 31.5" wide

Hey Dixie, haven't been here in awhile but my inspiration was my previous bike; 2007 sportster roadster 1200R that I put mids on and just loved that comfort when it comes to long distance riding
Thanks baddcactus, now you've got my wheels turnin. I love the XR and I know it was designed with rearsets, but it gets uncomfortable for me too quickly. This is a way better solution than selling it and getting something else.
sweet. I am still amazed of the mid controls. really considering this.
BTW what kind of headlight is it? Is that fork mounted? TY again

It's the stock light housing hanging from the visor but I have a 2-piece billet Roland Sands Design "Tracker headlight bezel" and a Daymaker Taiwan knockoff that was only $50 on Amazon that works really well--it was a tight fit in the housing but will fit.

LMAO! I love the new bars, the height is just right for my comfort and after a few 50 mile rides I feel I can do the 500 miles/per day I did back in June without fatigue. I think I Tire Wheel Fuel tank Vehicle Automotive fuel system
truly have a 1-off bike with these bars, the mid controls & the RSD / Vance & Hines competition pipe.
