What a great site for our bike! There's a wealth of information here. Got my XR 4-2-09 from Detroit HD, have 100 miles on her so far and am real pleased. A buddy and I walked in and each bought one. That's six for the dealer so far. I got pewter-denim as I think it will be a rare color. My build date was 3-25 and the VIN is 451327.
Can't seem to get my avitar down to the required size. What can I do?

Welcome...

Mo, welcome to your forum. Congrats on the new rig. I think you are the first one here with a silver bike & for that you will receive a bunch of sh....
It has already been scientifically proven that the orange ones are fastest.

Hello Motown, Welcome !! I was at the Detroit firefighters hockey tournament in Troy Mich. a couple of weeks ago. The Police Dept. were kind enough to give me a free ride back to my Hotel from the bar with no charges pending !!!!! I think I will visit the area again.

Thanks!

Hi and thank you for the welcome. Yep, the silver is different, that's why I chose it. The bike itself almost screams "anti-Harley" with no chrome to polish, rear set pegs, and that beautiful set of upswept pipes. The ratrod flat paint completes the statement.

I'm already getting flak from my riding buddies about the "prostrate gray" paint. Hey, it matches my hair! To be honest, I would have got the orange but my buddy chose that first. Everything else I have is black, cars, bikes---no more. I got a copy of a service bulletin from the dealer about the pewter-denim: no wax, polish, or detail spray. It will leave shiny spots. Use Windex to clean off spots and smudges.

Silver, interesting. We all know around here the the orange one's are the fastest, and the black one's are the meanest. You'll have to let us know what the silver one excels at.

Minority?

Yep, I figured I would take heat for the rat-rod silver. Cyberdyke and MadDog got a piece of me on that one. But hey--did yours come with a complimentary AARP card, samples of Pepto Bismol, Preparation H, Dentu Creme, Depends, and Viagra?

All kidding aside, have you guys done a color count of members to see what the break down is?

Not officially, but I've heard of about 6 black ones and now one silver. I think it was breezybikerdeb that suggested that you could have a whole set of new plastic for about $800 US. That way, you can change it up. I wanna hang out with folks that have that kind of disposable cash!

Nice Idea!

That's a great idea, CD. My bike buddies said that the orange will be the best resale when that time comes. Right now my dealer gives me 20% off parts and clothes for the first year, then 10% after that. I will look into a tank and seat/tail section in orange and hang on to it.

New paint job

Just got her done. Removed all the paint and used the clear coat paint that was found in Shurnoble, Russia. At night I don't have to use my lights. During the day, the only parts that show is the seat, grips, tires and engine with pipes. Only drawbacks are when I stop at the local biker bar, I FU all the GPS's ,Radar units, and set off all the alarm units and nobody will buy me a beer. BUMMER:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I haven't been on a loonnngggg ride yet, but that Preparation H might come in handy. I think CD said 6 black and one silver. There must be a boatload of orange.

Production done?

I talked to my dealer today, he has one more XR on the way in orange. Says he would like to keep it for himself but will sell it. Then he calls me and says a guy who lives close to me is interested but wants to see one, could I meet the guy?
Sure, and if he buys I get a couple of bucks commission.:)

So, I meet the guy and we talk. He's ok. And he's headed to put a deposit on the one bike inbound. But here's the interesting part---my dealer tells me HD is all done building XR's for 2009 as of May. If your order isn't in the system you will wait until next year or have to search the dealers to see who has one on the floor.

Does that sound right? HD stops production this soon? Dealer says HD orders up all the material and builds until out of parts. No more of that bike until the next model year. If so, we have a pretty exclusive model so far.

hmmmmm.....

I'd like to say I'm surprised but maybe not. Given the economy, the motor company's financial condition, and increasing inventory levels the dealer may well be telling the truth. The big question is whether the XR will be back for 2010 at all!

Strange?

I hope our bike stays around for awhile. My dealer says he has done trades to dealers down south to get XR's sitting on the floor. The south east dealers can't sell them but want the new trikes. So my guy has trike allocations he can't move and does a trade.
