Thanks Skiddy. That sale does seem low priced, and it also states they are Ohlins and Andreani.

If I wanted to go used, this is what I would buy as this is what will be installed in my forks, but the springs would still need to be purchased based on the rider's weight:

USED OHLINS FGK 216 NIX 30 FORK CARTRIDGES FOR '11-'15 KAWASAKI ZX10R | eBay

I could also go with this sale "with springs", but I am sticking with new.

The XR1200 Performance Fork and Shock Kit (54530-10) is "Pending Obsolete", and retails for $1628.95 plus tax ($1795.92 including tax for my area). XR1200X rear shocks and forks are readily available alone, each. Purchasing all separately would be about $2200.00.

Bought just the forks yesterday, and paid extra for next day delivery ($20.00). Not the route some would have gone. They are arriving today, and I'll turn around and ship them out to KFG. They estimate about 2 weeks from receiving them, before they ship them back out to me. My original forks should be back to me before the end of next week, so I'll install them until the others arrive. Rain forcasted for almost all of the next 10 days.

If Corey were to get this shop the cap that they need and they did their magic, no one else would have to go that route. Anyone could ship KFG their early forks and have Ohlins cartridges installed. That would be a noble thing to do. I, on the other hand am far more selfish. I like the X forks for their longer upper tubes and shorter lowers. I don’t know if they would perform differently with equal internals but I bet the early forks with the Gold Valves and good springs would out perform stock BPFs. Other companies install their cartridges in early forks. I don’t think you have to race to benefit from quality suspension. I’m not any kind of pro but I put a hundred miles a day on my XR(when its not snowing) and stock BPFs are not that good. Cartridges make a huge difference. I went with a different brand but the man wants Ohlins. Corey if I were you (selfish me talkin) I would spring for the BPFs, get the Ohlins cartridges installed, and be confident you have the best!! If you’re good at selling stuff get the package and pass the shocks off on some poor sucker. Geno’s pic is where they belong. $600 for those shocks is a total gouge!
Ytman, I totally agree. Start with the BPF's and go from there. Sure, Ohlins is the way to go, I'll be doing the same thing in the future and I'm not racing either. Starting with the non-BPF forks seem like a lot of hassle.

I forgot to mention that the new cap is going with my forks.

@Chipmaker
It is only a hassle because the information on installing the NIX 30 (FGK 216) Cartridges in the Non-X Forks, was not saved back in the day. Once the caps are made for these forks, it will no longer be an issue. Just send them to KFG, and it will be done.

Corey, I know you’re already on the path that you desire, but for those that haven’t started their project, there are other options. I’ve attached a snapshot of what GPSuspension did for me.

The forks were returned with new caps, compression in one fork, rebound in the other, adjustable spring preload in both. It took about 6 weeks start to finish.

Thanks for the added information and yet another option for front cartridges for those who choose to go that way.

…and just like that, both forks and the 2009 fork cap arrived, and have shipped out. Only got a picture of one of the forks.

They received my new forks and the fork cap from a 2009 without any issues. Got a phone call from Barry yesterday evening, telling me they freshened up my 2009 forks and made some improved modifications from how they were received. He said I should know the difference. Only charging me 1 hour of labor, whatever that is, and no charge for shipping. These should be back to me by the end of next week, reinstalled, and used till the new forks are done. He is headed to Daytona for race support, and will start on the new forks when he returns.

So far I am very pleased with the customer service and communication from KFG Motorsports. Barry will let me know when the modified caps are ready to take on non-BPF Forks wanting these same Ohlins Cartridges. I have no idea what any of the charges will be for any of this yet, but I’ll get that information as it is given to me.

In the meantime, XRSIST remains strapped to the Service Jack, and on a battery tender keeping my Lithium Battery fully charged for when the time comes to ride again.

My Race Tech Gold Valve Forks have returned from KFG rebuilt and tweaked. These will be reinstalled till the Others are complete and returned to me. With all of th wet weather currently and forecasted, riding with the originals will be short, but I am sure I will feel the difference from when I sent them out. I will refer to the Gold Valve upgrade as Stage 1, and Cartridge upgrade as Stage 2 for simplicity.

Awesome. Looking forward to it. I also have the OEM Standard forks and a set of OEM X forks but both are stock and I’m waiting to decide the best route for upgrades.

You have time to decide, as soon as they finish mine, I will ask them what pricing is on Non-X and X Forks for Cartridges. I can’t wait, but I have to, so I will. ⏰

Straying from the original topic here (No way! Who does that???). As I reinstall the stock forks back on my bike for now, knowing I will be sacrificing many zip-ties once again in the process, I’m could not pass up reweighing the difference between the all stock 18” tire wheel and brake rotor package, and the 17” PVM Wheel, Galfer Wave Rotor Package. Less rotational mass, and less acceleration front-end-lifting mass too!

If one cannot afford a full set of lighter weight wheels, at least by the 17 inch front.

I weighted myself on a new bathroom scale. Then I weighted myself with the stock tire/wheel assembly as pictured above. Subtracting my weigh from the pictured above, stock wheel, stock rotors, and tire, I get 113.7 lbs.

Subtract 9.5 lbs. form that, and you get my PVM Wheel, 120/70-27 Pirelli Angel Tire, and Galfer Wave Rotors.

Is this what you were looking for?

EDIT
This can’t be correct. The stock tire, wheel, and both mounted brake discs cannot weigh 113lbs! I’ll recheck it all this tomorrow.

Back together. Forks evenly at 0.275” above upper triple. Factory specs are 0.250-0.330”. If the rains let up tomorrow, I’ll take it for a ride around the bay.

@Shackman
33.7 lbs. is the stock tire, 18” wheel, and brake rotors. 24.2 lbs. is the PVM 17” wheel, Pirelli Angel Tire, and Galfer Rotors.

From this link:

Front
33.8 lbs. - Stock front 18” wheel loaded (tire, and wheel bearings) with stock brake discs.
26.6 lbs. - Vance & Hines Race front wheel loaded with Galfer Wave Rotors.
24.3 lbs. - PVM front wheel loaded, with Galfer Wave Rotors

Rear
44.0 lbs. - Stock rear wheel loaded with pulley, and Galfer Wave Rotor. (I don’t have a weight of this with the stock rotor)
36.4 lbs. - PVM wheel loaded with pulley, and Galfer Wave Rotor.

While I wait for the new forks to be complete, I have been commuting with the Gold Valved Forks for a week now. Just the initial pavement change from the driveway of my house to the street, I noticed the difference right away,or course for the better. The suspension works so much better that it ever did before. Kudos to KFG for going through and tweaking the original settings from when the Technician rebuilt them originally. To my XR Peeps, not to bash on the Technician, but if you want your suspension to work for you, and not work you, take it to someone that does specializes in suspension.

It is not a good update, but not a bad one either.
1. The cartridge kit will be arrive in about 3 weeks From Ohlins(ZX10R).
2. Something about a different rod inside needs to be ordered from Ohlins overseas.
About 4 weeks plus a week for buffer, and I should them. Excited, but going to be worth waiting for.
