MadDogXR has organized this for the past years, and was wondering if he will be organizing it again this year? I will be happy to attend, and follow his lead, even if I have to ride to Bakersfield. Just trying to get this event started.

We can’t let the East Coast have more attend their ride than us. The weekend before Memorial Day is when this happens. Request your time off from work now. Start to prep your XR for this now.

Yes:

amarzano
MadDogXR
Buck Diablo

If you are not listed in either of the above, you are a No.

I would love to help and attend. I’m in the sf Bay Area, but happy any where in the state!

that being said, I can think of some fun spots around Santa Cruz, Monterey, & Big Sur..

Just an FYI,

All of the previous EPICs were held on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. This gave riders the opportunity to ride up on Saturday and return home Monday. Especially helpful if you had to do some distance. Also, no need for time off work.

Maybe you guys should try organize a ride up there. There are quite a few riders within distance, especially if you were to do something ................... I'm thinking Santa Cruz/Aptos/Monterey?

Good suggestions. I’ve sent MadDogXR a message and will see if he replies.
I live in Santa Cruz, I'd like to be part of it!
The storm damage to Hwy 1 (and elsewhere) should be fixed by then.

Alex @amarzano and I are happy to assist with organizing this event, barring all of the rain we have had so far. Once my forks return from getting the Ohlins Cartridges installed, I am ready for any prerides. A good inexpensive motel as a starting point and completion point, with a casual dinner where we can keep the tradition of showing the bird to the East Coast. Like I always say, I can be like a semi mudflap, willing to travel for this.

If pictures will be shared i will be with you in my dreams!!!
Don't mean to hijack this thread but just as a side note, does all this rain you've had on the West Coast mean the drought is over... at least temporarily? Have the water catchments, eg. Lake Mead risen? Even back in 2016 when I visited Hoover Dam the lake was way low and reports are it's only got worse since then...previously submerged old boats emerging (and sometimes skeletons of murdered people etc. etc).

@Shackman
No problem chiming in with thoughts. With all the rain we have had I can only assume the roads will be repaired in time. Doing a few pre-rides on whatever route we decide before the weekend is the goal, and check for road closures. From what I heard from The Talking Heads (News), a lot of the rain water went out to sea, because it came down so much so fast.

I'd really like @MadDogXR to chime in with thoughts to see if he wants to host this again. Wanted to go last year with his 122 mile route, but needed more notice to get the time off work.

Usually MD checks in a week or so before the event to gauge any interest, I see he posts a bit on the Facebook page, but since I am not a member of any social media, I can’t contact him.
It would be nice to see a good turn out for this event, I believe California has the most members of any State, and it’s always fun to keep the rivalry between the 2 coasts alive.

It is getting closer to Memorial Day Weekend, and reading about the East Coast Epic keeps my motor going on this subject for us out West. I haven't heard anything from @MadDogXR, to see if he is hosting this again or not. In the meantime, Alex @amarzano and I will be searching out a route from and around the Santa Cruz Area. We will be making some day trips to map it out, and look for an affordable motel as a starting point and ending point,for those that want to come from farther away, making more than just a day ride of this, and a restaurant that will host us. I include myself staying 2 nights in the Motel of choice, eventhough I am about 70 miles from that area. Not going to start a "Who is Going" list just yet, till we come up with a solid route. We gotta check for all the detours from the rain we have had, are still getting, and going to get. We plan to include heading south on Hwy 1 along the coast. I hope this ride pans out. I have only seen 2 other Member's XR's, and one has been sold, and that Member no longer posts here.

Without stepping on anyones toes, Alex(amarzano) and I would like to host this annual ride. The ride date will be the Sunday of Memorial Weekend (05/28), recommended by geno. It will include some of the California Coastline, and some bridge, and some twisty sections, all to be determined in due time. We will have recommended motel locatiions near the start/finish around Santa Cruz Area (I will be staying at one of them), and we will find a place to eat dinner that Sunday Night for those that want to attend. We will do our best to make this a fun ride. I have changed my original post to list those attending, or those that might. Request time off work now. There are a lot of Members in the Bay Area, so get your XR ready.

More info as we progress with this.

Count me as a strong Maybe/Probably.

I'm not getting any messages. Do you belong to the Facebook group?

Call me old fashion, but I shut my Facebook off about two years ago and haven’t turned it back on since. I have sent you messages here, but haven’t got replies until today. Maybe the Mods can look into this? normally I can put the @sign and then the first two letters of a member his name and it’ll pop up with a window of which one I’m looking to send it to. when I do that the first two of your screen name XR it does not show up.

I actually started Facebook because of the XR1200 Forum. I have a feeling it reaches a much bigger crowd. I can post all of the information over there. Or you could start a Facebook with an XR name strictly for XR1200OwnersGroup stuff.
@MadDogXR
You can inform the XR1200 Facebook Group about this ride. Only 3 on the list so far, so I hope that will change.
Still planning on doing this with Alex, and whoever decides to join in. I look forward to attending more of these rides in the future.

Bike will be going under the knife for crank repair/work after this ride, and will be down a few months.
