It's that time of year again, time to mark you calendars for maybe the most fun ride of the year, the annual XROG ride in and around the Great Smoky Mountains. Many pixels have been shared on this forum about this ride over the years but it could all be summed up as great rides with great folks on great roads. For those who haven't been, the roads in Eastern Tennessee, Western North Carolina, and Northern Georgia are among the best in the US and we'll have some folks who know them like the back of their hands.
We've ridden in snow, rain, sun, and everything in between although the last couple of years have been really great, weather wise.
This is a really welcoming group and we would love for you to join us!

This is all cribbed from last year's ride thread but here is what you need to know:

Where is it?
We stay in Waynesville NC at the Oak Park Inn and ride out from there. We hit legendary roads like the Tail of the Dragon, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the Cherohala Skyway and many other lesser known but often better(!) roads in North Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee with occasional stops at places like the Wheels Through Time Museum in nearby Maggie Valley. It is an absolutely beautiful part of the country with great riding.

When is it?
The weekend before Memorial Day. Some folks come early, some stay late but the most of us will be there from Thursday to Sunday, May 18th-21st. There is no set time you need to be there, come for the whole time or ride with us for a day, you'll still have fun!

Who should attend?
Everybody that reads this post! If you're into this forum, you're welcome, no exceptions. We've had all levels of riders and folks that have ridden with us long after they've sold their XRs

This group has been meeting for a while, here are some of the previous rides:

The sound of XRs reverberating off the cliff faces on the sides of the road.

Attacking 311 turns in 11 miles (on just one of many roads).

Taking a break from some intense focus, to just look up and enjoying some amazing mountain scenery.

Feeling the rapid drop in temperature as you climb in elevation from hot holler to the mountain tops.

Good meals with great company.

Working on some new technique for a new challenge, like, for instance, left handed uphill tight "J" turns.

Not giving one worry as to where your headed, where to get gas, where to eat, when to stop, or any of the normal worries you would have riding across three states.

Getting the occasional long distance glimpse of the road ahead endlessly snaking down the mountain and knowing you're in for a good time.

Super nice people who only want you and everyone you ride with to have a good time.

Following the flicker of a tail light through a mountain road so thick in foliage the road seems to disappear.

All priceless..

Great big thank you to all the leaders, map readers, and decision makers - Randy, Scott, and Mike (among others)- and of course thank you to everyone else who rides, who make this such a special trip. Thank you all!

Yes, it was. He said he was suffering hearing loss and wanted something quieter or something like that.

Great pic's guys, thanks for sharing, wish I was there.

You & me both. Getting a bit cranky here about missing out in these rides year after year. Israel and Sweden were great but of course both were on foot or in a bus or train. I really missed riding while away, and these runs sound brilliant. Maybe one day...soon?

Does anyone have a map of the route taken?

Whew, a map... I personally rode 942 miles on this trip. I wish I knew where all we rode. Every year I'm pretty lost from following, but could care less because there is not a bad road there. So many twisty roads it's unbelievable and an XR riders dream.

There were some route deviance but that was because of Randy... or Scott.

Hmmmmm. That's the Pete Towshend rationale for going accoustic in the Who for a while there in the 90's. Wasn't all that long and he was back on electric. Through 4 Fender Vibroverb amps rather than a bunch of hulking great Marshall 4 X 12 cabs. Remarkable sound, I saw them in 2010 at an outdoor gig. I'll make a big call here and say I see Phad back on an ICE bike within 3 years. Even if it's not an XR.

Oh, I still have 5 ICE bikes. :)

But that electric is sweet! Just have to work on range and charging.

Saw some Memorial Day mentions and one thought came to mind…EAST COAST RIDE !!!
Sure enough, it’s been and gone…and, as always, looks like a fine time had by all.
Like Raven I’m sitting up here in Canada, but it does my heart good to see this event going from strength to strength
Great people, great roads, great food, and some XR1200 mojo, how can it not………..
