The parts situation is looking rather concerning for these bikes as they get older

Such a vulnerable part. Mine got broken when I crashed and just about every XR that I've seen that's been wrecked has broken guages and cover.

Kidding, it is posted for sale at that price but if you are really in a pickle, I could separate the instrument backing plate from the rest for maybe $20 plus shipping. You would have to spray paint it as that is why it was replaced, paint spot peeled, about the size of a nickel.
