I’m selling my orange 2009 XR1200. I love the bike, but I’m not riding it enough anymore, so it is up for sale to a good home. The bike is in northern Virginia in the U.S.

It’s your basic run of the mill XR1200. With about any functional upgrade that exists. It is not cosmetically perfect. It has been ridden well. But it is not abused and has been maintained. It does have some scuffs on it from where tape has been applied and removed, or it has scraped against things.

I’m sure I have missed some things, but upgrades include:

Engine -

  • Zippers Redshift 577 cams (the original set made by Zippers)
  • Zippers CNC ported heads
  • Increased compression pistons
  • Custom one-piece valve rods
  • Upgraded valve keepers and springs (by Zippers)
  • Updated oil tank with breather
  • Custom oil system breather lines and overflow tank
  • Head breathers opened up and rerouted externally
  • Air box cleaned out and smoothed for improved airflow
  • Custom oversized air filter
  • Custom intake air tube inside airbox
  • Added oil filter in oil return line
  • V&H stainless race Widow 2-1 exhaust (V&H plate is scraped, but I have a replacement)
  • 38-57 Japan/Brazil primary gearing
  • Screamin Eagle fiber clutch plates with heavier clutch spring
  • Mueller lighter clutch release
  • Screamin Eagle spark plug wires
  • Lithium battery
  • Mastertune tuning kit and custom tune
Suspension and brakes –

  • Showa BPF front forks with Ohlins springs and Andreani piston kit
  • Ohlins rear shocks
  • Freespirits rear suspension riser blocks
  • Custom Ohlins steering damper under the triple tree
  • V&H poly rear swingarm bushings
  • Sintered brake pads
  • HD floating front brake rotors
  • Harris rear rotor
  • Storz stainless steel front brake line kit
Wheels and tires –

  • Performance Machine front and rear 17” wheels
  • Dunlop race tires (used but in good condition)
Body –

  • Carbon Fiber front fender for 17” wheel
  • V&H carbon fiber belly pan (uncut – sidestand is not mounted)
  • Most of the fasteners are drilled and safety wired
  • Freespirits oversized carbon intake air scoop
  • HD drag bars
  • HD shorter clutch cable
  • G3 Faster cam throttle tube
  • Storz shifter
  • HD rear cowl to replace rear passenger seat
  • HD small LED turn signals
  • HD LED headlight
  • Kuryakyn rear laydown tail light
  • Stock license plate mount is trimmed and shortened
  • Rear passenger pegs are removed
  • Belt guards are removed
  • Aluminum axle sliders front and rear
  • Cutout pulley cover

The bike was used to prototype a number of aftermarket parts for the XR1200, so it was off the road for periods of time and has fewer miles than it probably should – about 26,600. After the initial engine work was done developing and testing the Zippers cams and head work, the engine was replaced and parts moved over to the new motor – so the engine has about 16,000 miles on it.

I’ve also got a couple bikes worth of spare parts for the XR, new, used, and original from this bike. I’ll give this bike a month or two to sell, and give the new owner first dibs on parts (e.g., heads, cylinders, new and used bodywork, original exhausts and intake, misc engine and bike rebuild parts, etc.). If it doesn’t move in a reasonable time, I’ll consider selling parts first and possibly parting out the bike.
The bike is in its original 1200 cc form, albeit with a slight compression bump – but it will run with any of the 1250’s. And yes, I do run 92-93 octane pump gas in it.

Price? We will talk – I’ve got to see whether offers make it worth selling it with all the parts, or return it to stock form and sell the parts separately.

You can PM me here on the forum.

I won't be far. And will always be available for a question.

My time is just getting pulled in other direction, and the XR is being neglected

Wait, what!?! Say it ain't so Greg. For potential buyers I can vouch for the bike being able to run with the 1250's, this is a really really (really!) great bike, even Jarhead likes it!
