Yep, it comes with a 34-57 primary and 28-68 final.

You can install a 38 from the Brazil/Japan bikes in the primary.

And, can go to a 29-68 or 30-66 final.

But unless you do some engine work, you wont be able to pull the higher gearing at high speed.

Serious question. How fast do you want to go, how much can you spend, are you already hitting the rev limiter in top gear all the time?

    Roger that.

Stock, you have more speed than you can use on the street.

With a 38 in the primary you have as much as you can pull on most tracks.

And the race series geared up the final for Daytona, but unless you are running there or the salt flats, you'll never use that much gear.

At Daytona the tall gearing only worked well was in the draft.
Someone would be out front and somebody would come from way back in the pack to go to the front.

A good tune and exhaust, along with taller gearing and a raised redline, will get you significantly faster than stock. It may not pull all the way to the new redline, but it will easily get you another 10+ mph.

I'm past it now, but sometimes on a good day I think I can remember the day when too much speed was not enough. My bike is fitted with a PowerCommander and Rebus 2 into 1 exhaust, I don't know how that compares to stock, but I'm plenty pleased with it.

I like the approach of what do you want it to do, then decide.

Is it worth spending $2k for twenty horsepower? Depends on the application.

I love my XR because its unique and sounds good. But its not fast, nor does it handle well compared to other big twins.

Of course that didn't stop me from spending a stupid amount of money trying to get it to turn and stop.

My modern mount is a '16 BMW R1200.
