    Default Motocross Legend Marty Smith Passes

    R.I.P. Marty Smith and Nancy Smith.

    Both were killed in a rollover accident .

    My first MX hero. Saw him race in 1975 at a national in West Virginia, then saw him again in 1976, beating Bob Hannah at the Mid-Ohio 125cc USGP. Very saddened to hear of this, and the circumstances of he and his wife's passing.

    May they rest in peace. Marty was a San Diego County resident, and I was fortunate to have met him.

    I notice one big no-no in the above shot. I see no occupant restraint devices (shoulder harnesses) Most off road cars have 5-point restraint for occupants..................perhaps they buckled after this photo.

    Aww man . Marty was as fast as anybody I ever saw on a 125 .

    I believe I was also at the Mid-Ohio race that same year . I remember it raining pretty hard in the second moto ,
    and yet the top guys seemed to go just as fast ! Crazy . Those were some great times for me .
