Should be another great race in Austria. Great time to be a race fan. Bad time to be a bookie! Who knows who will be on podium, let alone the win.

    The first four rows:
    Pol, Nakagami and Zarco, first
    Mir, Miller and Vinales, second
    Rins, Oliverira and Dovi, third
    Quartarro, Morbidelli, and Petrucci fourth

My guesses for the race (and these truly are guesses):

    Top 5

    1. Pol
    2. Rins
    3. Dovi
    4. Mir
    5. Nakagami

What a finish! Super happy for Hervé Poncharal one of the good guys in MotoGP, he's had so many great riders through that team, amazed (and stoked!) that this was his first win. He's come close so many times. I loved hearing the emotion in his voice when they interviewed him at the end (on TV at least). Also, not terrible guesses Seamus, they were all in the mix!

That was amazing enough. Then the finish...WOW! I was literally yelling in my loung room with excitement! Tough break for PE and Miller but they both ran wide at the last corner, Miller slightly, Pol right off the track, and it opened the door for the canny Oliviera to slip through for a deserved win.
The whole thing just underlines my view that MotoGP this year has offered 10 times the drama and interest of boring and highly predictable F1. Which I have very little desire to go back to.

I really liking having two races at the same track. It takes that "home field" advantage out of the equation for the second weekend. Everyone is faster. Also, I think it helps the younger guys who may have more stamina rolling into the second weekend. Just look at the top ten practice times today:

    1. Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) – 1:31.628
    2. Takaaki Nakagami (LCR Honda Idemitsu) + 0.002
    3. Fabio Quartararo (Petronas Yamaha SRT) + 0.016
    4. Maverick Viñales (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) + 0.041
    5. Pol Espargaro (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) + 0.071
    6. Franco Morbidelli (Petronas Yamaha SRT) + 0.183
    7. Joan Mir (Team Suzuki Ecstar) + 0.298
    8. Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Tech3) + 0.337
    9. Danilo Petrucci (Ducati Team) + 0.345
    10. Johann Zarco (Esponsorama Racing) + 0.444
    (see Motogp.com)

Brad Binder on top. He wasn't in the mix last weekend, and now on top. The whole top ten is less than a half a second apart. At this rate, there is going to be a lot of fast guys in Q1!

I am actually pretty excited to see what happens tomorrow, let alone the race on Sunday!
You can't call this one, but it does not stop me from trying.

1st - Quartaro is going to make a statement. His race pace is good. He will pass Vinales and keep going.

    2nd - Mir

    3rd - Bagnaia

Vinales takes pole position, but that's as close as he gets.

I think Rossi still has a shot at podium #200 this year, but maybe not this weekend.

    CYCLE NEWS MotoGP Misano Two

In a drama-packed race, Maverick Vinales notched his first win of the 2020 MotoGP World Championship at the 2020 Rimini MotoGP, staying the course when many challengers fell by the wayside.

Vinales qualified on pole and led the early laps before Francesco Bagnaia (Pramac Ducati) charged through to take the lead, running a metronomic pace that had him on course for his first-ever MotoGP race win. Until seven laps from the finish.

Coming into turn five, Bagnaia lost control of the Ducati early in the turn and slid into the gravel trap, capping off what was a bad day for the VR46 Academy with Valentino Rossi also crashing at turn four on lap three, remounting and finally retiring with 12 laps remaining.

Quartararo followed Mir past Espargaro late in the race but was handed a three second penalty for exceeding track limits, dropping him to fourth and handing a second KTM podium to Espargaro in third.

Andrea Dovizioso says he was forced to replace "undaunted" with "unemployed" on his race leathers for the MotoGP Emilia Romagna Grand Prix because he lost a bet with his friends.
"I was forced to put that because I bet with my friends," Dovizioso said.
"They said to me 'if you are first in the championship after Misano 1, you have to put that on for the second race'.
"And it happened! So, I didn't work that well to create that situation because I finished seventh.

Great stuff. I am happy to eat my words about Vinales. Hopefully, he stays competitive. It is great having this many championship contenders and race winners!

Pol was a bit of a surprise, to me anyway. I think if Brad Binder could have stayed upright, he may have made a bigger surprise.

It was another great race, though I was upset to see Rossi crash out.

I would not count out Mir for the championship. I wonder if it is mathimatically possible at this point for him to win a championship and never win a race.

    Barcelona!

OK boys and girls, here we go again. Same bat time and all that...

I am not calling this one until Sunday morning. Too many moving pieces. I am not even sure which manufacture will be on the podium. They all have a shot. Really looking forward to a good race. Hopefully, there will be a fight for first this time.

Morbidelli is looking hungry (literally - he was sick), Zarco and Peco are fighting for the same factory spot, Binder is game on (a serious contender for next year's champion), Vinales seems to have quieted the demons in his head, Dovi needs a championship (he will be the first ever unemployed MotoGp champion), Rins needs a come back, Quartaraor needs to reassert control, and Mir has been quietly rising to the top. Lots of story lines. Only one winner.
