I think if you built the frame and produced a "How to Swap frames in one night and hide the cost" video to go with it, you would have no problem selling them. "Flyin off the shelves" is the marketing term, I believe.

It sounds trick! And would make a unique XR.

Seems this has been discussed before, with the thought being that the stock frame is about 75 lbs, and expected weight savings would not be phenomenal for the cost.

That's the great thing about capitalism. People doing exactly what they want to do with their own money. I love taking my "slow" bike and keeping pace with full on sport bikes in the twisties but a 30 to 40 pound savings would keep the thing prom pushing through the corners that much less.

I love the variety that capitalism offers! And the different approaches to modifying the XR it breeds.

Which is why I'd save the $3k that it would take to lighten the frame 20 lbs, save some more money while dieting 20 lbs off my frame, lighten a few XR subframe components, and maybe go for carbon fiber wheels 😊

Though I'm looking forward to seeing the cool factor of an alloy framed XR!

Been there, spent that,,, and the 2 pounds difference between the CF rims and my PVM's, well, not even I could justify an extra grand for that!

Chromoly with aluminum subframe sounds good. I'm definitely interested. I've had http://www.trackmasterracingframes.com bookmarked for doing such a thing. Build one out, test it, and let us know the numbers.

May be my excuse to switch to a single-seat and do a 1275 kit.

Is this still a pending issue - or is it just an accademic discussion.

I’m very much interested in such a CrMo frame. It should be possible to get such a thing built from any of the respective companies. Biggest hurdle to overcome - as always in life - will be - funding of such a project.

If this would be an exercise Just for a „single“ customer - well then you Then will see - a really hefty price sticker... But - if we - here at this forum - could get a couple of customers - say 3 to 5 - we then would end with a completely different ballgame...

Therefore - here‘s my question... Do we have a couple of guys here - ready to start this endeavor and - able & willing - to put anything near to 3 grand on the table - in order to get this project off the ground...

With all the mods we‘ve seen here so far... this would be the ultimate in modification to the XR 1200...

    Do you guys agree...

WAKAN... French manufacturer... They currently work with S&S engines... But - this is just an other example of „what can be done“ - with the proven V2 Sporty - engine concept…
